Butterfly Effect 🦋
Think about it for a minute, will you?
You (and this moment too) have been in the making for about 13.8 Billion years.
So many things (most of which you & I don’t and probably will never know of) had to go right, which is an infinitesimally low probably event.
So Kudos to you and me for making it out here. 👍👍👍
This is a good place to remember the Rumi Quote
Do not feel lonely, the entire universe is inside you.
Stop acting so small. You are the universe in ecstatic motion.
Set your life on fire. Seek those who fan your flames.”
~Rumi
Anyway, enough pre-ramble…
In 1961, a MIT meteorology professor’s coffee break resulted in rounding error leading to a breakthrough that would improve our understanding of complex systems.
Which is why, he asked the question,
"Does the flap of a butterfly's wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas?"
The answer surprisingly seems to be, more often than not, that it can and does.
This is kind of also how Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin and Charles Goodyear serendipitously stumbled upon vulcanization.
The idea in essence is that tiny seemingly insignificant changes can have massive unpredictable and thereby uncontrollable impact on our lives and all kinds of situations in general.
For example, Morgan Housel talks about how United States (250 years ago) owes it’s existence to a random change in direction of winds on a particular and he himself escaped a skiing accident in which he lost two of his best buddies as a teenager. Check from 43 mins onwards.
I also like the video by Vertasium and the Farnam Steet Blog on this topic.
Hope this is helpful.
Until next time ✌️
